Time to talk.
Today is Time To Talk Day, a campaign started by mental health charity #timetochange to encourage us all to be more open and have a conversation about our mental health problems, which this year is more important than ever.
Here are few tips to encourage others to open up.
Are you getting enough hugs?
Today is National Hug Day and to be honest, any other year, I would probably quickly forget about it and move on… But this year, this feels different. A lot of us are touch-deprived, either living alone or with reduced social interaction, especially if working from home. And this is affecting our health…
Forget Blue Monday.
The third Monday of January (Blue Monday) is supposedly the most depressing day of the year… To be honest for a lot of us, it might feel like we have got stuck on that day since last year….
Read on for some tips on how to make things a little easier right now.
Tip 10 - Take the pressure off.
Today my 10-week series ends with a final tips to get you through these challenging times.
Tip 9 - Build a self-care plan.
This week’s post (the penultimate in my “Rise and Grow in Uncertain Times’ series) helps you build a wellness plan.
Not everyone is a fan of routine, and I am not suggesting that you join the ‘5am Club’, but in times of uncertainty, creating some structure from the things we can control can provide some stability and peace of mind.
Tip 8 - Practice gratitude.
I know it’s hard to be positive about our lives right now while in the middle of lockdown 2.0, and that it is easier to focus on the things we have lost or can’t do right now, but research suggests that counting our blessings is a good way to maintain our wellbeing.
This week’s “Rise and Grow in Uncertain Times’ post looks at ways to cultivate a sense of appreciation to reduce stress.
Tough times don’t last, tough people do.
Thought I would share this article which explores what brings us resilience (in the context of the pandemic) and how to cultivate it.
Tip 7 - Embrace the perfectly imperfect.
Is your best never good enough? Do you put a lot of pressure on yourself?
A lot of us are striving for perfection and putting the bar so high that it can drain the joy out of life and considerably increase our stress levels. So, is it time to say, ‘good enough is good enough’? – my motto for 2020 by the way as I am a ‘recovering perfectionist’.
This week’s “Rise and Grow in Uncertain Times’ post helps us give ourselves a break.
Tip 6 - Change your mindset.
Last week, we saw that learning to worry less could positively impact our stress levels, but another way to address our stress is to change the way we think about it.
This week in the “Rise and Grow in Uncertain Times’ series we think of ways to help change our mindset.
Tip 5 -Take back control.
For a lot of us, addressing our stress means learning to worry less. When we worry, we go round and round thinking about our worry, often believing that the problem is even more worrying which leads to … more worries...
This week in the “Rise and Grow in Uncertain Times’ series we learn how to break that vicious circle.
Tip 4 - Release weight off your bridge.
Stress is a condition occurring when the demands exceed the resources we are able to mobilise.
To continue with my “Rise and Grow in Uncertain Times’ series of tips, I thought I would share with you the bridge analogy, which helps us understand better why we feel stressed and overwhelmed in particular right now.
Tip 3 - Avoid stress contagion.
With a global pandemic, racial injustice, political unrest and climate change concerns, we are surrounded by uncertainty and we don’t know what life will look like in 6 months or in a year or two. But it’s down to each of us, it is our responsibility to find the resilience to take this in and move forward.
And we must all realise that stress management and self-care are no longer a luxury – they have become a necessity.
Tip 2 - Find your ’new’ balance.
Work-life balance has been quite challenging in the last six months, especially for those juggling the demands of work and home schooling or those looking after a relative directly affected by Covid.
A lot of us focus on better time management, which is a good place to start, but we also need to learn to manage boundaries better and to make better choices.
Tip 1 - Cut yourself some slack.
My new ‘Rise and Grow in Uncertain Times’ series offers tips and tools which I hope will empower you to not only navigate these exceptional circumstances, but also to flourish and make sure you harness the challenges and difficulties as opportunities.
