Forget Blue Monday.
The third Monday of January (Blue Monday) is supposedly the most depressing day of the year… To be honest for a lot of us, it might feel like we have got stuck on that day since last year…. But 'the most depressing day of the year' is a myth that has no basis in science, a PR ploy invented by a travel company some 15 years ago …
So, a load of rubbish, but a good excuse for me to highlight again (and not just for one day, but for every day of the year):
1. It’s okay to feel tired, drained, worried, overwhelmed, lacking motivation, angry, [add your own spin on it], things are tough right now.
2. Be kind to yourself, we are living in unprecedented times and we might not always get things right.
3. Focus on quality sleep - know yourself, study your sleep patterns and work on getting as much quality sleep as you can.
4. Get some fresh air every day – and no, spending eight hours glued to your screen with the window open doesn’t count!
5. Focus on one thing at a time (there’s no such thing as multi-tasking) – whether it’s home schooling, an important meeting or running the house, be fully present in everything you do without guilt and the rest will have to wait…
6. Connect, connect, connect – might not be in person these days, but there’s never been so many ways to stay in touch with our loved ones.
7. Give yourself a hug (French proverb: ‘You are never better served than by yourself’)
